Workshops

Picture
Our workshop programme got of to a great start with Suzanne running a "Blue and White" workshop at the Oriental Museum on 11th January and some great work was produced. Sarah will be following this up with a needle felt workshop on 1st March. Our workshops are always well-attended, they are relaxed and fun. What a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

We continue to strive to offer varied workshops and we have a number of sessions coming up this year, all of which can be booked via Eventbrite. These run from 2:00-4:00pm.
  • 3rd May - Talk on the Pitman Painters.
  • 12th July - Workshop with Wendy Parkin (painting and drawing).
  • 6th September - Workshop with Maggie Hickman-Smith (folded books).
  • 8th November - Workshop with Sarah Dodds (beaded Christmas Ornaments).

Exhibitions

Retrospective

Our first exhibition of the 2024 was at the new Changes Gallery in Darlington. Each member was able to showcase anything they wished, there was no particular theme, however as you can see from the poster quite a few members included summer themes such as the beach, summer flowers and ice-creams.

Although a small venue, it was well received and Alison ran some glass workshops alongside the exhibition to promote the group's activities.
Our "Feathers and the Feminine" will be coming to a close this weekend. Our members had a great time working with the museum collections and produced an amazing range of artworks which were displayed in the cabinets alongside the collection objects which inspired them. We were also very proud to display a number of ceramic works by Carolyn Corfield who is very much missed by our members.

Future Exhibitions

Looking forward to the coming year, we are all working away getting ready for the next exhibition. "Traces" will be on display at the Arts Centre in Washington from Friday 28th March to Saturday 3rd May. All of the members took the word traces and interpretted it in their own way. It never ceases to amaze me just how wonderful the exhibitions look once displayed considering we hardly ever have an opportunity to see each other's work prior to set up day. Below is a sneak peak at some of Gail's work.
